New York Jets: 7-Round 2019 mock draft in early January
Round 4: Chase Winovich, Edge, Michigan
When you look at the numbers, Chase Winovich had a solid career at the University of Michigan. He had 43 tackles for loss and 18.5 sacks. When you watch him play, though, there’s a different story told.
Winovich will give you max effort all the time. When he’s on the field, his motor keeps running, and it runs at top speed until the whistle. Even though he can have a decent career in terms of production, there are limitations that will substantially limit his ceiling in the NFL.
When it comes to athleticism, Winovich is lacking in three key areas: flexibility, lateral quickness and length. He doesn’t possess the strong base of the top pass rushers in the country, and as a result, has trouble driving and is more of a finesse pass rusher.
After four years with the Wolverines, he’s developed into a very smart football player. He has a keen understanding of how to win at the point of attack at can beat blocks with a very nice swim move. He also has quick “get off” and times the snap very well. All of his limitations wlll lead him to end up being a pass rush specialist in the NFL.
