14. Atlanta Falcons: Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi State

After nearly winning the Super Bowl following the 2016 season, the Atlanta Falcons went in 2017 trying to prove there would be no such thing as a Super Bowl hangover for them. They did well in that endeavor as they did return to the playoffs — the only NFC team to do so in 2017 — but they didn’t get far.

In 2018, they looked like a hungover team. Their offense and defense both had moments where they looked out of rhythm, but the defense was the real issue for them and injuries made things seem worse.

Following their 2018 season, they decided it was time for some change and Dan Quinn let go of all three of his coordinators — offense, defense, and special teams. That move puts a big target on his back, but it really needed to be done.

Now, they try to give their new coordinators some weapons to work with, starting with Jeffery Simmons on the defensive side of the ball. The big Mississippi State defensive tackle has the kind of skill it takes to be special. He doesn’t offer a lot in the pass rush department, but his ability to shut down the run game will be huge for a Falcons team that struggled in several areas last season.
