16. Carolina Panthers: Montez Sweat, EDGE, Mississippi State

After once again missing the playoffs after a winning season the year prior, head coach Ron Rivera started to feel his seat getting a little warm. This isn’t to say he should have been fired, but he has to know that this coming season is very important for him.

He’s yet to have two winning seasons back-to-back — but then again neither is the franchise despite being around since 1995. This season was especially bad as they started out 6-2 before finishing 1-7 (with their lone win coming against a bunch of the New Orleans Saints backups). Part of the problem was the injured shoulder for Cam Newton, but the defense wasn’t as strong as they usually are.

They can go a couple of ways to try and fix that problem. Carolina could go defensive back or safety, or they could try to get some help on the edges. Here, they go for the edge rushing help as Montez Sweat from Mississippi State is the selection. He replaces Julius Peppers, who surely has to be ready to hang it up. If not, then he can work alongside Peppers, who is one of the best to ever rush the quarterback.
