32. Green Bay Packers (via New Orleans Saints): Zach Allen, DT, Boston College

After adding an edge rusher with their first of two picks in the opening round, the Green Bay Packers add a defensive lineman here as they cash in on the pick they received from the New Orleans Saints last season. They got this pick as the Saints wanted to jump up in the draft and take UTSA edge rusher Marcus Davenport.

In exchange, they wind up with Zach Allen from Boston College, who is expected to be a quality player in the NFL. Allen had a career-high 6.5 sacks in 2018 for the Eagles, but he’s not highly-touted because of his pass rushing. He’s more respected for being an all-around talent at the defensive end spot and even had 100 tackles in 2017 for Boston College.

That doesn’t mean he can’t rush the passer, as he had 16.5 sacks over the past three seasons, but he’s going to make his money as a guy who shuts down the run while still being a decent player in terms of harassing the signal-caller. For Green Bay, they need a better defense so that not all the pressure to succeed is on the offense. Their first two picks help them in that pursuit.
