Seattle Seahawks: 5 Most disappointing players from 2018
By Samuel Teets
Ed Dickson
This could be any tight end on the Seahawks roster. Will Dissly looked good early on, but he ended up on IR pretty quickly. Nick Vannett is more of a blocking tight end but is slowly coming along as a pass catcher. But Dickson was the best pure pass-catching tight end on the roster this year. Because of that, he’s the one who I’m going to highlight.
He joined the Seahawks after having the second best year of his career with the Carolina Panthers last season. Seattle needed to fill the production at tight end left by Jimmy Graham and Luke Willson. Considering the other players on the roster, signing Dickson seemed smart. Even though he battled injuries for part of the season, Dickson still played in ten games this season and had minimal impact in the passing game.
I’m not saying Seattle expected Dickson to fully replace Graham, but they were hoping for more than just 12 receptions, 143 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Willson accomplished more than that last season as the second-string tight end, which is the role Dickson was relegated to down the stretch.
The Seahawks need to address Wilson’s passing options this offseason, and they need to make a run at finding a pass-catching tight end. It shouldn’t be hard to find a more potent player than Dickson.
