Daniel Jones, Duke – Jacksonville Jaguars

If there’s one thing that’s consistent about the NFL, it’s that they love big, strapping, athletic quarterbacks. Duke’s Daniel Jones is that. He doesn’t have an elite arm like a Drew Lock, however, he is the most pro-ready passer in this draft.

Jones’ inability to throw receivers open or his lack of elite arm isn’t a hinderance as it would be with most teams if he were to land with the Jacksonville Jaguars. For starters, the West Coast offensive concepts capitalizes on Jones’ ability to work well in a quick passing game. He has a quick release and does show some ability to work well from play action. Jones has a strong enough arm and the wherewithal to make window passes as well.

The Jaguars also have a trio of solid wide receivers led by two young studs with mega potential. The talents of Dede Westbrook and D.J. Chark will mask Jones’ deficiencies. Because of Westbrook’s ability to run after the catch, he’d give Jones a playmaker unlike anyone he’s had at Duke.

In today’s NFL, an athletic quarterback who can take off helps any team’s running game. Thusly, Jones will get help from the Jaguars backfield. Head coach Doug Marone relies heavily on the running game — for better or worse — which helps any rookie transition well into the NFL.

The combination of (possibly) Leonard Fournette, T.J. Yeldon and Carlos Hyde is beneficial to any rookie, especially one with Jones’ skill-set and will help him have a further easier transition to the pro game.
