2019 NFL Draft: Best landing spots for the top quarterback prospects
Kyler Murray, Oklahoma – Miami Dolphins
There’s usually one guy at the quarterback spot every draft who earns the polarizing title. Following in the footsteps of his Oklahoma teammate, Baker Mayfield, is Kyler Murray. Like Mayfield, there are questions about Murray’s height. He’s listed at 5-11, 196-pounds but whispers around draft circles suggest he’s much shorter, perhaps even around 5-8.
Nevertheless, his shortcomings doesn’t show up on film. All Murray does is dominate through the air and on the ground. Murray is an amazing athlete with limitless upside — once you get over the height issue. The Miami Dolphins and Kyler Murray are a perfect marriage for two reasons.
One, the Dolphins and Ryan Tannehill’s time together is coming to a mediocre end. With two years left on his deal, the Dolphins can part ways with Tannehill any time. Murray will rejuvenate the fan base by giving them someone electric to watch. The Miami fan base is starving for excitement they haven’t had since the Big Three era.
Secondly, Murray could sit for a year and learn the nuances of the NFL. As mentioned above, the Dolphins have Tannehill under contract for two more seasons. For his rookie season, Murray can sit and fix his weaknesses, similar to what Kansas City did with Patrick Mahomes. Setting his feet and learning to run an NFL offense are two concerns coming into the draft for Murray
Moreover, the Dolphins can use this time to construct an offensive line conducive for Murray’s height. The Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns are great examples. Their offensive guards are the focal point their offensive line construct. Interior offensive line play happens to be dreadfully bad for the Dolphins.
Murray has the “it” factor that Tannehill lacks and could provide the Dolphins with an immensely talented prospect at the quarterback position to hang their hats on.
