The Wild Card Round featured three underdogs advancing in the 2019 NFL Playoffs, but how likely are upsets to occur in the four Divisional Round games?
There is a lot to consider in regards to favorites and underdogs entering the Divisional Round of the 2019 NFL Playoffs. It’s undeniable that having home-field advantage and coming off a first-round bye is of paramount importance at this point in the postseason. At the same time, however, it was three road underdogs that advanced out of Wild Card Round as opposed to one home favorite.
That one favorite that won a week ago was, of course, the Dallas Cowboys. After Dak Prescott and Co. topped the Seattle Seahawks, they now head to face another NFC West foe, this time taking on the Los Angeles Ram in the LA Coliseum. They’ll need their upstart defense to be at its best to top Sean McVay’s high-octane offense.
Meanwhile, the teams that earned upsets last week were the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts in the AFC with the Philadelphia Eagles joining Dallas as winners in the NFC. The Bolts go to Foxborough in the Divisional Round to see the New England Patriots, Indy heads to Arrowhead to face the Kansas City Chiefs and the defending champs head to the Big Easy for a date with the New Orleans Saints.
Given the upsets that we saw in Wild Card weekend, though, fans have to be wondering if there is more of that to come, starting with the Divisional Round. Can these dark horse teams continue to pull off underdog victories on the road moving forward? Will the Cowboys get in on that party?
With that in mind, we’re going to look at every matchup in the Divisional Round of the 2019 NFL Playoffs and determine the likelihood of an upset on a scale that goes as follows (from least likely to most likely): Ain’t gonna happen, Nothing’s impossible, That’s feasible, Book it. We start with the Colts visiting the Chiefs.
