2018 NFL Draft: Grading every first-round pick after rookie year
10. Josh Rosen, QB, Arizona Cardinals
2018 Stats: 2,278 passing yards, 11 TDs, 14 INTs, 55.2 completion %, 66.7 passer rating, 138 rushing yards
Boy, what a bummer Josh Rosen’s rookie season was. Personally, I was building him up as the incoming quarterback who was going to shine the brightest in 2018. Instead, he may actually have been the worst among the five signal callers taken in the first round.
Now before we start calling Rosen a bust, we must acknowledge that he didn’t have a quality supporting cast. Sure, it’s great having a guy like Larry Fitzgerald to throw to and David Johnson to hand off to. Beyond those two guys, though, the Arizona Cardinals didn’t exactly surround Rosen with playmakers. The injury to Christian Kirk didn’t help, either.
Still, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that Rosen led the NFL’s worst offense in 2018. They simply couldn’t move the chains on a regular basis, and his inability to move the ball down the field was a big part of that. Too many turnovers, too many sacks taken and too many missed opportunities.
I’m still holding out hope that Rosen can take a significant step forward as a sophomore. From watching his college film, I know the natural abilities and arm talent are there. The Cardinals just need to do a better job of setting him up for success.
