20. Frank Ragnow, C, Detroit Lions

2018 Stats: N/A

In all honesty, Frank Ragnow’s rookie season was far from perfect. There were some good games and some bad games. However, as long as you’re not holding him up to the standard set by Nelson for rookie interior blockers, it’s easy to see that Ragnow was an excellent pick.

Realistically, Ragnow could use some work as a pass protector. Then again, most rookie blockers do. With that said, the former Arkansas standout was a monster in the ground game, proving to be a key factor in the Lions’ ability to run the ball. Just watch him destroy a defensive tackle in the linked video if you need visual proof.

It’s always hit-and-miss when it comes to drafting interior offensive linemen this early. Typically it takes a truly unique talent at guard or center to warrant a Top 20 selection. While I wouldn’t put Ragnow in that elite category, it’s clear that the young hog molly had no trouble making his presence felt during his first year in Detroit.

The Lions already have an exceptional offensive line, and took it a step further with the selection of Ragnow in the first round. If he can continue to perform at the level he’s capable of, he’ll soon be pushing for Pro Bowl appearances on an annual basis.
