2018 NFL Draft: Grading every first-round pick after rookie year
22. Rashaan Evans, ILB, Tennessee Titans
2018 Stats: 53 total tackles, 1 pass defended
Overall, it was a so-so rookie year for Rashaan Evans. Drafted to be an instant-impact linebacker for the Tennessee Titans, the youngster battled injuries early in the year, keeping him from being the rising star so many figured he’d be after a monstrous career at Alabama.
Even when he got healthy, it was a slow grind for Evans. That’s not to say he wasn’t good down the stretch, but there were times where his impact was minimal. In the end, though, the 53 tackles he produced wasn’t bad for a guy who was struggling to stay healthy to start the year.
What was really lacking with Evans was those splash plays, though. He rarely got after the quarterback, which was supposed to be a strength of his coming into the draft. The former Crimson Tide star also failed to make much of an impact in coverage, notching one pass deflection and no interceptions.
It was a decent year that most rookie linebackers would be happy about. However, when you consider what the Titans gave up to draft Evans, it was a bit disappointing. It could have been worse, but it certainly could have been better as well.
Grade: B-
