28. Terrell Edmunds, FS, Pittsburgh Steelers

2018 Stats: 78 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT, 4 passes defended, 1 fumble recovered

This was another one of those picks that made zero sense when it was first announced. I knew the Pittsburgh Steelers needed help at safety, but reaching for a guy like Terrell Edmunds stank of desperation. Realistically, the Steelers were just getting their guy before he was gone.

While Edmunds wasn’t a star by any stretch of the imagination, he certainly wasn’t the wasted pick so many folks (including myself) expected him to be. The rookie safety earned a starting job right off the bat, made a few plays and focused on getting better each and every week.

The end result was a solid rookie campaign from a safety who faced a ton of pressure to be a playmaker from the get-go. Safety was one of the Steelers’ biggest weaknesses, which is why they went out and added both Edmunds and Morgan Burnett this past offseason. Adding them to the mix with Sean Davis gave their secondary a significant upgrade on the back end.

Chances are the best from Edmunds is yet to come. With his first year under his belt and a clear path towards a brighter future in sight, it’s easy to see the Virginia Tech product delivering on his draft status eventually.

Grade: B-
