2018 NFL Draft: Grading every first-round pick after rookie year
32. Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens
2018 Stats: 1,201 passing yards, 6 TDs, 3 INTs, 58.2 completion %, 84.5 passer rating, 695 rushing yards, 5 rushing TDs
I don’t think the Baltimore Ravens could have asked for much more out of Lamar Jackson considering the questions that surrounded the former Heisman Trophy winner heading into the draft. Despite the concerns, Jackson has more than delivered for the Ravens so far.
Yes, the uber-athletic quarterback wasn’t been perfect. In fact, he’s got a lot of work to do as a passer. He takes too many sacks, throws into tight coverage too often and has some inconsistent accuracy. With all of that said, he’s an offensive catalyst who’s ability to use his feet to move the football immediately upgraded the Baltimore offense.
After taking over for Joe Flacco as the Ravens’ starting quarterback, Jackson was a driving force behind Baltimore’s run to the playoffs. Although the team’s elite defense played a huge part in winning six of its last seven games, Jackson was a spark plug that ignited what was a largely lethargic Ravens offense.
There’s still plenty of progress to be made with Jackson as a passer. Considering the wide range of concerns that were draped around the Louisville product’s shoulders, though, I think he more than proved himself worth the risk for the Ravens. With all of that said, there’s still bust potential.
