8. Roquan Smith, ILB, Chicago Bears

2018 Stats: 122 total tackles, 5 sacks, 1 INT, 5 passes defended

There was some serious concern coming into the season when Roquan Smith held out from signing his rookie contract. He got a late start with the Chicago Bears, potentially throwing his whole rookie-season trajectory out of whack. Then he signed on the dotted line.

Once on the field, we quickly remembered why Smith was seen as such a unique linebacker talent. Boasting impressive speed and athleticism for the position, he immediately began racking up tackles at an alarming rate. It was more than just tackles, though, that helped the former Bulldog stand out in the Windy City.

Smith actually did a little bit of everything. He got after the quarterback with ease, made plays in coverage and was around the ball on what seemed like every snap. Learning from guys like Khalil Mack and Danny Trevathan probably aided his assimilation into the Chicago defense, but his natural talents played a big part as well.

With that said, there are some significant areas of improvement. Smith did struggle at times against the run (despite his massive tackle total) and did appear lost in coverage on more than a few occasions. Overall, it was an impressive rookie season but we should be expecting more from the No. 8 overall pick in 2019.
