Now that the Chicago Bears are in offseason mode, tough decisions need to be made on some of their own players. Here are five who may not return in 2019.

Now that it’s been nearly two weeks since the Chicago Bears had their hearts broken by the Wild Card game loss, the focus now goes to the offseason. General manager Ryan Pace and the rest of the front office need to make difficult decisions to strengthen the roster and play further in the playoffs.

The Bears need to take a look at their salary cap space. As it stands now, they should have about $19.7 million available if the salary cap rises to $193 million as many expect, per Over The Cap.

The team has another way of freeing up more cap space. They can decide to let go of some players and save some money. It may be a cruel thing to consider but the team could improve by subtraction.

That isn’t to say that these players are bad, but freeing up some space the Bears could add even more talented players. If the Bears want to get stronger, they need to make these tough decisions.

I decided to have players under contract who the Bears can decide to let go. Potential free agents will cost the Bears and not having them return doesn’t affect the salary cap (except indirectly as the team needs to replace them) so I am only looking at savings. The Bears could replace them with other players already on the roster and take the savings to bolster another position of need. They may decide to replace the same position with someone they feel can improve the position.

Here are five players who may not return to the Chicago Bears in 2019.
