The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed Alex McGough as their next practice squad quarterback for the 2019 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to address glaring problems with their offense this offseason. Quarterback is garnering the most attention, especially in regards to the 2019 NFL Draft this spring. It is safe to say that Alex McGough will be the practice squad quarterback for the 2019 season after the Jags signed him this week.

Last year, Tanner Lee was drafted by Jacksonville in the sixth round out of Nebraska. He spent his rookie season as the practice squad quarterback after being released and then re-signed. Lee may be released once again with the signing of McGough.

Seattle drafted him as the 220th overall selection in the 2018 NFL draft. He played collegiately at Florida International. In his career, McGough threw for 9,091 yards with 65 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.

Physically, McGough comes in at 6-3, 218 pounds. Although he is not a marquee quarterback, Walter Football gave an honest description in their pre-draft rankings:

"A lot of teams around the league are working out McGough, and he has impressed with his arm talent in private workouts. He’s a sleeper quarterback who has generated a buzz and could end up being a mid-third-day pick. Teams have been impressed with McGough’s combination of arm strength and athleticism."

McGough appeared in all four preseason games for Seattle. He completed 36 of 62 passes for 416 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Like Lee, he was waived and re-signed to the practice squad.

Jacksonville must solve their deficiency at the quarterback slot. Blake Bortles will be an expensive cap casualty, if it happens. In the likelihood it does happen, expect the Jaguars to sign an inexpensive free agent signal caller and draft a quarterback in the first round.

Remember, Tom Coughlin is still in charge. Jacksonville will, no doubt, re-cast the offense to run the same ground and pound offense.
