2019 NFL Mock Draft: Kyler Murray surprisingly goes No. 1
By Dan Parzych
12. Green Bay Packers: Deionte Thompson, S, Alabama
Once the Green Bay Packers made the decision to trade veteran safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins in the middle of the regular season, it seemed clear they would look to add another safety once the offseason rolled around.
Free agency will certainly have plenty of candidates for the Packers to choose from, but most likely, the team will try to fill their need with one of their two picks in the first round of this year’s draft thanks to a trade last year with the New Orleans Saints.
Normally, Green Bay always seemed to be an absolute lock for at least a Wild Card spot in the NFC, but the team has missed out in each of the last two seasons, which played a part in the decision by the organization to fire Mike McCarthy.
Aaron Rodgers has always been one of the most competitive quarterbacks in the NFL throughout his career, and will always put the Packers in great position to be a contender, but even the best quarterbacks need help on the other side of the football.
If Green Bay does decide to focus on safety early on in the draft, Alabama’s Deionte Thompson could help fill their need since he could end up being the top player at his position from this year’s class.
With his size and strength, Thompson could end up being a solid replacement to Clinton-Dix.
