Sixth Round: Jacob Martin

The Seahawks deserve credit for drafting edge rusher Jacob Martin out of Temple with the 186th overall pick. Martin, who saw playing time as a linebacker this season, outperformed his draft position.

He saw action in all 16 games and recorded 10 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, three sacks, eight quarterback hits, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. This is more along the lines of the stat line I expected the third-round pick Green to produce, but Martin stepped up and filled in missing production.

For a player taken so late in the draft, those numbers are really good. It’s not surprising when some teams cut their sixth-round selection or add them to the practice squad instead of keeping them on the active roster. Martin won’t have to worry about that though. He’s got the production and potential to stay on the roster and should see more snaps in 2019.

Seventh Round: Alex McGough

Alex McGough was Seattle’s final selection in the 2018 draft. The team took him with the 220th overall pick. At Florida International, he was the primary starter for all four seasons and recorded his best passing efficiency rating as a senior.

McGough stepped into a quarterback battle for the backup quarterback job behind Wilson. He played in all four of the team’s preseason games but didn’t do enough to remain on the roster. Instead, the Seahawks moved him to the team’s practice squad where he remained for the rest of the season. Quarterbacks like McGough often float around the league for a few seasons before either getting a shot at some action or falling out of the league.

McGough is going to get another shot with a different team this year. He recently signed a reserve/future contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Best of luck to him.
