Jermey Parnell

Jermey Parnell came into the NFL in 2011 with Dallas. His first season in Jacksonville was the 2015 season. He has been the staple at right tackle for the Jaguars. This season, Parnell struggled against some of the younger opposing pass rushers. Perhaps, his better days are behind him as a starter in the NFL. Jacksonville might release him as a salary cap casualty.

Releasing Parnell, would save the Jaguars $6 million, per Spotrac, with no dead cap designation. This move would create $3 million in cap space. Jacksonville addressed the right tackle in last season’s draft.

Will Richardson was drafted out of North Carolina State to replace Parnell. Unfortunately, he did not see any playing time due to injury during his rookie season. Richardson has much to prove, but his contract is more affordable than Parnell’s.

The cap hit for Richardson is less than $1 million. He gives the Jaguars a younger, less expensive right tackle. You have to wonder if Parnell would have finished the season if Richardson had been healthy.

If the Jaguars make these two moves, they are heading in the right direction to right the financial ship.
