The Dallas Cowboys are in good shape in terms of the salary cap, but with some big contracts on the horizon there could be some potential cap casualties still

2018 was a great, and terrible, season for the Dallas Cowboys. It was great as they took a 3-5 start to the season and somehow won their division at 10-6. They even won in the first round of the playoffs against the Seattle Seahawks.

It was terrible as they once again failed to get past the Divisional Round of the postseason. It was also difficult to watch as the Cowboys continually ran predictable plays on what became an incredibly stagnant offense.

With all that being said, the Cowboys have a bright future as they entered the postseason without a starter over the age of 30, which means they’re still getting better. Young stars like Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are about to enter their fourth season as will linebacker Jaylon Smith who is becoming a leader on defense.

While all the youth is great, it does also bring up a dilemma for Dallas. After years of being strapped against the salary cap, they find themselves in decent shape with $54 million of space available in 2019. However, all those above-mentioned players — and more like DeMarcus Lawrence — are due for new contracts which means the money they have may not be enough.

In an effort to making those contracts easier to handle, Dallas could look to add more space via releasing some high-priced players. Here we look deeper at five potential salary cuts for them during the 2019 offseason.
