The Kansas City Chiefs came up short in an overtime AFC Championship loss to the Patriots, so we look ahead to the 2019 NFL Draft with a seven-round mock.

For much of the 2018 season, the Kansas City Chiefs were the talk of the NFL. With Patrick Mahomes taking over the reins of Andy Reid’s offense, they appeared ready to set the world on fire. And, for the most part, that’s exactly what they did — at least on the offensive side of the ball.

Armed with tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Tyreek Hill, Mahomes and the Chiefs offense were largely unstoppable. They were so potent when they had the ball, that they ended the regular season as the top seed in the AFC, meaning the road to the Super Bowl in the conference would go through vaunted Arrowhead Stadium.

On Sunday night, the New England Patriots showed that Arrowhead was their stop on the road to Atlanta, not the Chiefs’ home domain. After Kansas City topped the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional Round, their defense came up short in the AFC Championship Game against the Pats, unable to stop them on the opening drive of overtime.

Subsequently, the Chiefs season is over. Of course, the future is still tremendously bright for the franchise moving forward. Mahomes offers this team a fantastic future as he’s already become a certified superstar this season, throwing 50 touchdown passes in his first year as a starter. With him in control of the offense, they are in good hands.

Having said that, the AFC Championship loss to New England showed that this team isn’t as complete as they need to be. Put simply, the Kansas City Chiefs needs to improve to match the prowess of the offense if they want to get over the hump and into the Super Bowl in the coming years.

They can start building towards that in the 2019 NFL Draft, where they have four selections in the top 100 picks. And with that, we look at a seven-round 2019 mock draft for the Chiefs.
