The New York Jets have the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. One prospect they should consider selecting is cornerback Greedy Williams out of LSU.

It will be very interesting to see who the New York Jets will select with the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Gang Green has so many needs, and both Josh Allen (edge linebacker) and Jonah Williams (offensive tackle) would be very popular selections. One prospect though to keep in mind is cornerback Andraez “Greedy” Williams from LSU.

Williams is considered one of the elite corners in this year’s draft. Morris Claiborne and Buster Skrine are both impending free agents and, let’s face it, Trumaine Johnson was a bust in 2018. The Jets need an infusion of youth in the secondary and a dynamic player like Williams might just fit the bill.

Let’s take a look at his some of his college highlights:

The 6-3, 184-pounder was named a Consensus All-American last year and is a two-time All-SEC selection as well. After redshirting his first year, Williams registered eight interceptions and 19 passes defensed in his two seasons with the Tigers.

As the video shows, Williams has excellent coverage skills and leaves little separation between himself and the opposing receiver. He has long arms and strong recovery speed when needed. Williams also possesses superb instincts and is considered to be a true ball hawk with a real nose for the football.

With that being said, the former Tigers standout is far from a perfect player. He needs to gain a little weight and get stronger in the weight room. Williams needs to improve his run support and he’s not a great tackler, especially in the open field. Added strength will help in both areas as will going back to the basics regarding his tackling technique.

Williams also has to boost his intensity level up a notch or two — he doesn’t exactly remind you of Jamal Adams in that regard. Like chef Emeril Lagasse likes to say, “Let’s kick it up a notch.”

It will be interesting to see if the Jets tab Williams with the third overall selection because dynamic cover cornerbacks are hard to find. Williams has to show improvement in several areas and he’ll need time to fully evolve into an elite NFL corner. His ceiling is quite high, though, and he may be well worth the risk with such a premier draft pick.
