Sixth Round: Joey Hunt

With the 215th overall selection, the Seahawks drafted Joey Hunt from TCU. The move was understandable, the Seahawks center position was in flux. Patrick Lewis started nine games at center for Seattle in 2015 and the team was poised to bring him back for 2016.

Drafting Hunt as a backup seemed reasonable — except the Seahawks waived Lewis in August 2016. That’s when Justin Britt, who’d been used at other positions along the line up to that point, became the starting center.

Because of how chaotic the Seahawks line was, Hunt saw action in nine games and even started one when Britt didn’t play. At 6-6 and 315 pounds, Britt is much more of an imposing force in the middle than Hunt who stands at just 6-2 and weighs 299 pounds. Since he didn’t have starting potential, Hunt was moved to the Seahawks practice squad in September 2017. He was then activated from the practice squad near the start of December in the same year.

Seattle re-signed Hunt in April 2018. He is now set to become a restricted free agent this offseason since the one-year deal he signed with the team is about to come to an end. Hunt played in 11 games and started twice in 2018, but his future is a bit uncertain moving forward with Seattle.
