In less than 10 days, the New England Patriots will be attempting to earn the franchise’s sixth Super Bowl win since the 2001 season.
Some might not like to admit it, but the run that the New England Patriots have been on for almost two decades is unlike anything that has been seen in the NFL before. Since 2001, the Patriots have made the playoffs 16 times, made nine trips to the Super Bowl (including this season) and have captured five Vince Lombardi Trophies.
On Sunday, Feb. 3, New England will be attempting to add another championship to their already impressive total when they take on the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. A win by the Patriots would tie them with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl victories in NFL history (six).
This year’s matchup is certainly not going to be easy for New England. The Patriots needed overtime to escape defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship and they’ll be taking on a Rams team that features one of the most ferocious defensive lines in the entire league.
In addition to Los Angeles’ pass rush, New England will also have to find a way to contain a Rams offense that averaged 32.9 points per game during the regular season. An argument can easily be made that this year’s matchup is one of the toughest the Patriots have ever had in their nine Super Bowl appearances.
There will be a ton of football fans rooting against the Patriots when they take on Los Angeles next weekend. But even those who can’t stand the sight of New England on their television screens should actually be rooting for them to win the Super Bowl this season.
For those who are a bit confused, let’s explore why everyone should be rooting for the Patriots to defeat the Rams in less than two weeks.
