Super Bowl 53: 20 Potential MVPs for Patriots vs. Rams
By Dan Parzych
10. C.J. Anderson
Towards the end of the regular season when Todd Gurley was dealing with a minor knee injury, the Rams made the decision to sign C.J. Anderson as an insurance policy, and it turned out to be one of the best choices they could have made.
Despite some of the potential surrounding rookie John Kelly, Los Angeles felt confident enough in bringing Anderson on board due to his veteran experience over the years along with the fact he knows what it’s like to win a Super Bowl.
Turns out, Anderson came on at the perfect time for the Rams to help the team secure the No. 2 spot in the NFC before eventually going on to represent the conference in the Super Bowl. In fact, the argument can be made that without Anderson being there to fill in for Gurley when he was struggling in the NFC Championship, Los Angeles never would be in this position playing for a Super Bowl title.
McVay deserves all of the credit in the world for figuring out a way to make it work on offense with Anderson still receiving plenty of action since Gurley has always been a workhorse in the backfield.
Just when it seemed like the Rams couldn’t become any more dangerous on offense, Anderson became part of the picture to give a defense like the Patriots one more weapon to worry about.
