Super Bowl 53: 20 Potential MVPs for Patriots vs. Rams
By Dan Parzych
7. Julian Edelman
Would New England have defeated Philadelphia last February in the Super Bowl if Edelman was healthy enough to play instead of watching from the sidelines due to a torn ACL? While the Patriots can make a strong case, all that matters is Edelman does what he does best for this offense by continuing to be a threat, and nearly impossible to defend at times.
Ever since his breakout season in 2013, Edelman has been of Brady’s favorite targets when looking at how quickly he can catch the football, and find ways to move down the field.
By catching 16 passes so far in two postseason games, Edelman will most likely receive plenty of action once again in the Super Bowl. Even if Los Angeles puts some of their best defenders on Edelman, the wideout is one of those players who will always find a way to get the football in his hands, simply because he’s that good.
The fact that Edelman has received double-digit targets in five of the last six games for the Patriots shows how much Brady works to make sure he’s involved as much as possible. So if New England truly wants to be in the best position possible to defeat Los Angeles, Brady needs to make sure Edelman gets the football.
