3. Sony Michel

Remember last spring when some analysts gave the Patriots a hard time for selecting Sony Michel in the first round over belief he wasn’t worthy of going that high? Well, it’s only been one season, but it’s safe to say that New England knew exactly what they were doing with the former Georgia star.

As mentioned before, the Patriots have a history of riding the hot hand at running back, but the rookie has made a strong case for being the go-to guy in the backfield, especially over the last month or so.

It’s been one thing to watch Michel break the 100-yard rushing mark in three of his last four games, but watching him rush for five touchdowns over the last two games shows the kind of impact he’s been able to make on offense for New England.

Exposing the defense of the Rams early on with some of their struggles from the regular season at stopping the run will be key for Michel in the Super Bowl, and Belichick knows that. With the way he’s been playing so far this postseason, Michel may have the best chance of all players on offense outside of Brady to take home MVP honors if he comes through on his end.
