Super Bowl 53: 20 Potential MVPs for Patriots vs. Rams
By Dan Parzych
2. Jared Goff
Don’t be fooled by Goff’s numbers from the playoffs since most football fans would be concerned over the fact that he only has one touchdown pass in two games without taking into consideration some of the other big ways he’s come through on offense for the Rams.
Whether it was his big third down run in the Divisional Round to seal the deal over the Dallas Cowboys or simply keeping his cool on the road in New Orleans during the NFC Championship, Goff has come a long way since that horrendous rookie season in 2016.
That year, Goff basically had zero protection from the offensive line and one of the weakest receiving corps in the league, making it easy to see why he would end up going 0-7 as a starter.
Two years later, Goff is fortunate enough to work with one of the top offenses in the NFL, and watching the former California star be one win away from winning the Super Bowl this early in his career was unexpected, but also sort of amazing.
Since Los Angeles is known for having a strong ground game thanks to Gurley and Anderson, the Super Bowl contest could be one of those games in which the Rams need more from Goff in the passing game just to have a fighting chance.
At least if this happens to be the case, Los Angeles feels pretty confident about Goff being able to handle the pressure after looking at everything he’s already dealt with up to this point.
