20. Pittsburgh Steelers: Mack Wilson, LB, Alabama

Entering the year, the Pittsburgh Steelers looked to have some problems at inside linebacker. They lost Ryan Shazier to a devastating injury and haven’t been able to adequately replace him. They did get some great output from L.J. Fort, who stepped up for them this past season.

He could continue to be one of the two starters in their 3-4 defense, but he will need some help next to him if Pittsburgh wants to continue to improve on that side of the ball. With their first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, they address that very spot with Mack Wilson from Alabama.

Wilson took a lot of heat for his play in the 2019 NCAA College Championships, but that shouldn’t define him. Alabama was uncharacteristically overmatched in that second half and players like Wilson suffered from it.

Looking beyond that one game, Wilson proved to be a solid player in coverage and should have no problem starting right away for Pittsburgh. Critics of Wilson point to his feet seeming to be heavy as he has a hard time with his change of direction and covering sideline to sideline. Some of that can be alleviated by playing in a 3-4 defense where he splits a lot of duties with a teammate like Fort.
