2019 NFL Mock Draft: Nick Bosa falls to No. 2, Kyler Murray in top 10
By Randy Gurzi
8. Detroit Lions: Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky
This could end up being a really important season for the Detroit Lions second-year head coach Matt Patricia. He took over a franchise that was 9-7 in each of the past two seasons and was supposed to help them get over the hump. Instead, they went backward and won only six games on the season.
Now heading into 2019, they will have some serious questions to answer. First is the status of Patricia, who raised a lot of eyebrows this season when he routinely showed up to media sessions and team meetings late. Demanding excellence from players while not showing it yourself never works out well and this could be the case here should he not correct those issues.
Another question will be about whether or not they need to keep Matthew Stafford. It’s been a question for a couple of seasons now and unless they get back to the postseason, he could be in trouble.
One thing that could help both men would be a better defense. Looking to improve on that end, they add Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen. He played in a stand-up role for the Wildcats, but Patricia will have no problem getting results as he’s been able to adapt his scheme to the players rather than the other way around.
