If you’re wondering who is performing the halftime show at Super Bowl 53, you’re in luck as we’re looking at who is performing and what to expect.

The Super Bowl halftime show is almost as popular as the game. Each year, we eagerly await to see who will be picked and then give our takes on their choice. With the Super Bowl being played in Atlanta, many assumed it would be a performer from there. A wrong assumption as this year’s halftime performer hails from Los Angeles, California.

The main performer for the Super Bowl halftime show is Maroon 5. If you’re not a fan of Maroon 5, no worries as they’re bringing out two guests: Travis Scott and Big Boi. Probably not anyone’s first choice and certainly not the NFL’s either as they wanted the likes of Rihanna and Cardi B. Both declined in a show of support for Colin Kaepernick.

Even though Maroon 5 wasn’t the best choice, there are still a few things to be excited about. Back in November, Stephen Hillenburg passed away and it devastated fans as he created the TV show, Spongebob Squarepants. In honor of Hillenberg’s life, fans floated around a petition to get “Sweet Victory,” a song from the series performed at the halftime show.

Much to fan’s delight, it seems as though the song will be played. It’s unclear if it will be played by Maroon 5 or the Bikini Bottom Marching Band. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. However, it’s a nice gesture and one that fans of all ages will be looking forward to. There’s no guarantee but a video posted on Maroon 5’s Twitter gave a small clue.

Looking back at what past performers have done, Maroon 5 will likely do a mash-up of old and new hits. A possible set-list might include a newer hit like “Girls Like You,” along with older hits such as “Moves Like Jagger”, “Animals” and “Sugar.” As for Travis Scott and Big Boi, it’s unclear whether they’ll perform their own songs or collaborate on a Maroon 5 track.

Overall, this year’s halftime show is somewhat underwhelming. Maroon 5 might surprise us and put on a good show. As the NFL’s third choice though, it’s unlikely. Maybe Big Boi and Travis Scott will save the show. Regardless of who is performing, most of us will be watching Super Bowl 53 so watching the half time show is just part of the tradition.
