Super Bowl 53 features two teams that have already won the big game. So which NFL franchises haven’t won a Super Bowl?
Super Bowl 53 will showcase the young, flashy Los Angeles Rams against the seasoned, experienced New England Patriots. Both franchises have been to multiple Super Bowls and even faced off against one another before in Super Bowl 36. The Rams have won one Super Bowl, while the Patriots have won five. Which NFL teams have yet to win one at all?
Surprisingly, it’s a long list. The Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, and Buffalo Bills all have yet to win the Big Game; 12 teams in total.
Of those teams, the Texans, Jaguars, Lions, and Browns have never made it to a Super Bowl. While the Browns and Lions each have four NFL Championships from back in the 1950s and ’60s, those unfortunately do not count for a Super Bowl championship.
Meanwhile, the other eight teams on the list have plenty of appearances in the big game, but have never quite sealed the deal. Below are the appearances for the other non-winners:
Cardinals: SB 40
Titans: SB 34
Chargers: SB 29
Falcons: SBs 33, 51
Panthers: SBs 38, 50
Bengals: SBs 16, 23
Vikings: SBs 4, 8, 9, 11
Bills: SBs 25, 26, 27, 28
The Bills and Vikings have struck out all four times, while the Panthers, Bengals and Falcons have all gone 0-2. The only team out of the 12 listed above to have never been to a conference championship is the Texans, who have only been in existence since 2002.
Super Bowl 53 may not feature a new champion, but there’s still plenty to be excited about. Not only could we be witnessing the beginning of the end of the New England Patriots’ dynasty, but we could be seeing the blooming of a new dynasty in the Los Angeles Rams.
