Adding Bush to the mix earlier in this mock draft would certainly help, but the New England Patriots could use an infusion of talent across their entire defensive front seven. With their last third-round selection, the Pats add another impact player to their defensive front in Bush’s Michigan teammate, edge rusher Chase Winovich.

In three years as a full-time contributor at Michigan, WInovich piled up an impressive 18.5 sacks and 43 tackles for loss. He does not show elite-level athleticism on the edge, but he is a tough and willing defender who will make a consistent impact at the next level.

Winovich is an extremely smart defender who also puts himself in position to make a player. He shows impressive functional strength at the point of attack and enough of a pass rush repertoire to keep opposing offensive linemen guessing.

The Michigan product does not have elite upside at the next level. His overall athleticism and ability to bend around the edge is limited. Simply put, he is never going to be a freak edge rusher who can create consistent pressure on the quarterback.

That being said, Winovich is a strong and reliable player who excels against the run and can create pressure off the edge in certain situations. In the third round of this mock draft, the New England Patriots find a guy who could come in and compete for a starting spot up front right away.
