Round 1, Pick 2: Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State

In 2018, the 49ers surrendered the 28th most points of any team in the NFL, finished last in turnovers, and finished tied for 22nd in sacks. Although a defensive line anchored by DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas ranked middle-of-the-road against the run, it is evident that a game-changing pass rusher is needed in order to get after the quarterback and create more turnovers.

Luckily there are a handful of elite pass rushing prospects in the 2019 draft class.

Nick Bosa had his career at Ohio State cut short by injury, but in 29 games, the junior edge rusher finished with 17 sacks, including four in only three games in 2018. Bosa also finished with 29 tackles for loss and averaged two per game during his junior campaign. Following in his brother Joey’s footsteps, Nick hopes to become a top five pick as well, and in this mock draft, landing at No. 2 behind only Quinnen Williams.

Adding Bosa to a defensive line that already consists of three other first round picks will build a solid, young core that is bound to harass quarterbacks for years to come. If he manages to get by Arizona, John Lynch should call his pick in in record time and make Bosa a 49er as quickly as possible.
