Round 4, Pick 2: Beau Benzschawel, OG, Wisconsin

The interior of the 49ers’ offensive line ranked right around average according to Pro Football Focus, but also saw injuries to both Laken Tomlinson and Weston Richburg. Not to mention, Richburg, at the age of 27 played extremely poor for most of the season, and if traded or cut after June 1, the Niners would only have to eat about $1.8m in dead money, and clear $6m in cap space.

With that being said, adding to the interior of the offensive line should be a somewhat of a priority, not super early, but around the fourth round, they could find gold.

Beau Benzschawel found the field in all four seasons on highly talented Wisconsin Badgers offensive line and, measuring in at 6-6 and 315 pounds, he fits the mold for an NFL offensive lineman. Someone this battle-tested at the college level has the ability to become a plug-and-play or sixth “swing” offensive lineman right away.

With Mike Person at the age of 30 and Richburg struggling mightily during the 2018 season, a young, experienced guard like Benzschawel could be a quality fit in San Francisco. Seeing improvement from Joshua Garnett when he filled in off the bench and pairing with Tomlinson at the age of 26, adding Benzschawel could give the Niners a cost-effective and young interior to their offensive line moving forward.
