Trey Flowers, DE, New England Patriots

There’s a very real possibility that Frank Clark leaves this offseason. The Seahawks will obviously do what they can to retain their young pass rusher. However, unless they’re willing to slap him with the franchise tag, there’s no guarantee he returns to Seattle in 2019.

If Clark decides to see if the grass is greener elsewhere, the Seahawks will be left rather thin at defensive end. They could wait to address the position via the 2019 NFL Draft, but I’m a huge proponent of finding a proven veteran instead of pinning your hopes on a rookie.

That’s why Trey Flowers makes plenty of sense as a big-name target for Seattle.

The star of the New England Patriots’ pass rush, Flowers has been a consistent presence in Boston since arriving as a 2015 fourth-round pick. Although he doesn’t put up gaudy sack numbers, he’s a big-time playmaker who is always finding his way onto the highlight reel.

Flowers may not be as exciting of an option as Demarcus Lawrence or Jadeveon Clowney, but he’s a consistent threat who has improved each and every year. Plus, he may not cost as much as the other top edge rushers, which would be a bonus for the Seahawks.
