The Arizona Cardinals possess the power to control the 2019 NFL Draft. But, as the owners of the No. 1 pick, they could get a king’s ransom from a team looking to make a move up.

As draft season officially picks up, one team moving quickly into the limelight is the Arizona Cardinals. The owners of the top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Cardinals have the opportunity to grab a franchise-changing talent, likely on defense, to try to keep up in a talented NFC West division.

Whether the Cardinals select Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa, Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, or a dark horse candidate, the No. 1 pick is a coveted spot this draft season. The Cardinals will be the envy of 31 other NFL teams come late April, if only for a night. But for as valuable as that pick is for Arizona, it might be even more sought after by other teams in the top ten. Let’s talk about market value.

Every year, NFL teams will build up a certain quarterback, or quarterbacks, in the draft class. Inevitably, one or more teams are going to get scared that the quarterback they want won’t be there by the time they pick. Since quarterback is the most valuable position on the field, it’s likely that at least one team is going to try to bid for the No. 1 pick. And everyone has a price.

This isn’t to say that the Cardinals should trade away their No. 1 overall draft pick, but they definitely could if the right offer comes calling. The Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Giants are two teams to keep an eye on, with the Giants being the more likely choice. If he’s on the board, the Giants are nearly a lock to pick Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins. How can the Giants ensure Haskins is on the board when they pick? Make sure they get the No. 1 pick, of course.

Again, it’s unfair to say that the Cardinals should trade their pick. But for the right price, it would be wrong for them not to consider the offer, at the very least.

General manager Steve Keim is working with very little talent on the Cardinals roster, and even though one “incredible” player would be nice, two “very very good” players might be even better. It all comes down to Arizona’s front office, and what their philosophy is. The No. 1 pick has buyers, but Arizona can name their price.
