Round 5: Khalil Hodge, LB, Buffalo

Damien Wilson is likely out as the Cowboys strongside linebacker is set to hit free agency. Also potentially gone is Sean Lee, the weakside linebacker who lost his job to rookie Leighton Vander Esch last season. That means Dallas needs to add someone to the roster who can offer depth while fighting for a starting spot.

A great option here is Khalil Hodge out of Buffalo. He’s an incredibly talented player who hasn’t gotten the attention he deserves considering he played in the MAC for Buffalo. Still, he was credited with 419 tackles in three seasons — as well as 5.5 sacks and three picks. He should have no problem finding a role in the Dallas defense.

Round 7: Derwin Gray, OT, Maryland

Last season, the Cowboys struggled through a lot of injuries along the offensive line. Center Travis Frederick was lost for the entire season and both Connor Williams and Tyron Smith battled durability issues.

Cameron Fleming filled in for Smith and Xavier Su’a-Filo took the spot of Williams while he was out. Neither was, but the Cowboys could use some more depth and competition behind the starters.

That’s why they use a seventh-round pick on Maryland’s Derwin Gray. Listed at 6-5 and 325 pounds, Gray showed plenty of power and even considered leaving in 2018 for the NFL. Now, he offers Dallas an option behind Smith and La’el Collins.
