Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton?

If a guess had to be made, one would think that Cam Newton would be fully recovered and ready to go by the beginning of the 2019 season. However, it was evident that something was clearly and significantly wrong with his shoulder in 2018 and this injury could be much worse than anyone could predict.

Speaking of Blake Bortles, he may find himself in the Carolina blue and potentially taking starting reps to begin the season for the Panthers. If the Panthers were smart, they would pursue a quarterback with experience starting games in the NFL just in case Newton is not ready to roll.

The other name that comes to mind besides Bortles is Ryan Fitzpatrick who has started a plethora of games in his career. However, just as Bortles was prone to turnovers, Fitzpatrick has been prone to throw too many interceptions over the past few seasons. 34-year old Joe Flacco is another name that could wind up in Carolina.

Until otherwise notified, Cam Newton should be expected opening weekend for Carolina, but the team should not hesitate to pursue a proven NFL quarterback just in case of emergency. This will cost the team a pretty penny, but will put them in a much better situation than sticking with current backup Taylor Heinicke or signing another quarterback with the ceiling of a professional backup quarterback.
