We all know what the Bears have off the edge when it comes to Mack and Leonard Floyd. With that said, Chicago’s defense is a bit lacking in terms of depth off the edge. Adding more capable pass rushers in 2019 would be ideal.

It doesn’t help that Aaron Lynch is headed for free agency. Sam Acho is an aging option who has never exactly been a star pass rusher. Kylie Fitts has some upside, but it’s not like the Bears wouldn’t mind adding more young options to make opposing quarterbacks uncomfortable.

Targeting Porter Gustin would accomplish exactly that.

A lauded pass rusher for USC, Gustin is arguably one of the most talented edge defenders in the 2019 draft class. The problem is the guy simply can’t stay healthy. This past season, he suffered a season-ending ankle fracture, limiting him to only six appearances. Before the season, Gustin also suffered a meniscus tear. On top of that, he saw the field only four times due to toe and biceps injuries.

The pass-rushing extraordinaire has all of the natural talent NFL teams are looking for. Despite that, his inability to stay on the field is a serious cause for concern. If the Bears are looking for a middle-round steal who can make an instant impact, though, Gustin should be the selection here.
