Round 7 (via KC): Jordan Kunaszyk, LB, Cal Berkeley – 6-2.875, 230 lbs. (NFLPA Game)

  • 95 solo tackles (17.2 percent), 11 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 pass deflections, 5 forced fumbles in 2018.

Age: 22 years old (Born Oct. 15, 1996)

The Browns need linebacker help and this draft is loaded in terms of players who are likely to be available in the late rounds or even after the draft. Jordan Kunaszyk had fantastic production in a power five conference.

Additionally, Cal went from a team that would score a ton of points and hope for the best to a team built on defense as they won seven games. Further, this defense which carried much of the burden when it came to winning had Kunaszyk and his teammate Evan Weaver combined for 183 of the team’s 551 solo tackles.

Kunaszyk is a run and chase linebacker with pretty good speed and agility as well as mirroring skills in terms of chasing down the run. He’s also developed into a really good blitzer in terms of timing and finding the lane to be successful.

Kunaszyk can slip blocks but when he’s forced to go square up against a lineman, he’s going to get washed out. He’ll try to work around it, but he’s not someone who can fight through blocks. If he can’t beat the opponent to his spot or elude the block initially, he tends to be wiped out.

Protected or with a lane, he’s shown the ability to disrupt an offense. He looks like he needs to be a WILL linebacker in the NFL and will need to contribute on special teams. There appears to be some potential with him to be more, but he looks like he could be a nice role player for a team like the Browns.

Some Other Interesting Possibilities Foregone: Olamide Zacchaeus, WR, Virginia; Cortez Broughton, DT, Cincinnati; Brad Koenig, Miami (OH); Malik Fountain, LB, Central Michigan

*None of these players were included on this board at this time, but are worth mentioning.
