New York Jets: 5 Realistic targets in 2019 NFL free agency
By Cory Kinnan
CB Ronald Darby
Ronald Darby is set to hit the open market this offseason, and given that the Philadelphia Eagles, his current team, currently has negative cap space, it would be a safe assumption that Darby will likely be playing in a different uniform in 2019. The 24-year old could make his way to the Big Apple.
Darby, traded to the Eagles after two seasons in Buffalo as a piece in the Jordan Matthews deal (talk about a lopsided deal in retrospect), has played the final two years of his rookie deal in the City of Brotherly Love. However, due to nagging injuries, Darby has only played in a total of 17 games over the past two seasons, meaning that his services could be obtained for a cheaper price tag.
After signing Trumaine Johnson and Morris Claiborne last offseason, the Jets are back in the market as Claiborne’s deal was only a one-year contract. Getting another shut down corner across from Johnson would have the Jets’ secondary on track to become the next great “No Fly Zone” along with young safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye.
Darby has picked off six passes and deflected an additional 54 in his short career to this point. The Jets have an opportunity to sign a young corner in his prime and should be willing to break the bank in order to get him in a gang green uniform.
