Washington Redskins: 7 Prospects to target in the 2019 NFL Draft
5. David Sills V, WR, West Virginia
Missing from the Redskins offense is a wide receiver who can blow the top off of defenses. While Colt McCoy didn’t threaten the back end of defenses often, it helps to have a guy on the outside who can — a player like David Sills out of West Virginia. There’s not much noteworthy film on him being an intermediate threat. Sills specializes in stretching the field. That’s fine, though, because what the Redskins will ask him to do is run vertical routes.
With the Redskins’ current speedy receivers not living up to expectations, a player like Sills makes sense. In fact, Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network praises Sills’ ability to stretch the field:
"“Has some of the best vertical deep ball skills in the class… Will slow down and stay underneath the ball to prevent having to deal with extra contact. Good concentration and effective transition from catch to run opportunities.”"
Moreover, Sills excels against press coverage with good hands and quick feet. While he’s not a burner after the catch, he does use power to help create some space and get some yardage once the ball is in his hands.
Sills is a 6-4 wideout who can play above the rim, utilizing his height and length to win 50-50 catches. The Redskins use fakes and double moves to set in defensive backs, and Sills does that very well.
