3. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, Florida

The Redskins run a variety of zone coverages where their safeties play a huge role. They line up with two deep safeties and, right now, they only have one, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson out of Florida is the perfect guy to pair with him.

Gardner-Johnson has fluidity with a great burst out of breaks. His speed and quickness are a perfect marriage with his elite ball skills. He is truly at his best as a deep safety. However, he’s experienced playing man coverage and zone as the nickel corner. As a run defender, he does a solid job with assignments. It helps that he has great size at 5-11, 207 pounds, weight that he carries well.

As a matter of fact, he’s shown big hit ability that could galvanize his teammates. Manusky isn’t limited with Gardner-Jones because he’s so versatile, a quality praised by John Ledyard of The Draft Network.

"“Outstanding versatility. One of the major reasons why CGJ will be a hot commodity in this draft class is because of his ability to play multiple positions at a high level. “"

Manusky can experiment with Gardner-Johson all over the field. He projects as an upgrade over D.J. Swearinger, who was cut late in the year by Washington. With the hole they have opposite Clinton-Dix and the need at corner, Gardner-Johnson makes sense.
