Draft or sign defensive line help (or do both)

After shocking the league in 2018 with surprisingly good play from veteran players like Margus Hunt and rookies like Kemoko Turray, the Colts still should aggressively address their defensive line. With veterans like Hunt expected to walk in free agency, the Colts will need to be looking at defensive line help all offseason. With the most projected cap space and plenty of draft picks, the Colts could build one of the leagues best defensive lines.

To attack the interior of the line, I expect the Colts to use one of their draft picks to select an interior defensive lineman. Guys like Jeffrey Simmons, Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence could all be possible targets for the Colts in in the first or second round of the draft.

The Colts have lacked an elite interior lineman presence for years, adding one of the top interior rookies in the draft would immediately bump up the level on this young line. The Colts could also look at someone Grady Jarrett outside of the draft if he is not re-signed by the Falcons.

Luckily for the Colts, the free agent group of outside pass rushers could be one of the best we have ever seen. With names like Demarcus Lawrence, Frank Clark, Trey Flowers, Dee Ford and many more available, the Colts should be ready to spend big on at least one. With other needs to fill in the draft, attacking their outside pass rusher in free agency would be the best way for the Colts to go.

Loaded with cap space, the Colts will be able to spend the most and get whatever guy they want. With promising rookies from last year’s draft class, the Colts still need to a pass rusher that they will be able to get immediate production from.
