Antonio Brown: 5 Teams that should trade with Steelers
On Tuesday, Antonio Brown reportedly requested a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers, but which NFL teams should be making a call about a deal?
It’s been quite clear that Antonio Brown no longer wants to be with the Pittsburgh Steelers for quite some time. It became undeniable on Tuesday. It started when the star wide receiver tweeted out a farewell address to the Steelers fans. That was followed by Adam Schefter of ESPN reporting that Brown had officially requested a trade from his team.
While there’s no guarantee that the All-Pro receiver is traded, it does appear to be a distinct possibility that it happens. There is arguably no team in the NFL that couldn’t use one of the best wide receivers in the game. Having said that, the need is greater and the fit is better with some NFL teams than it is for others. Thus, it makes sense to look at some of those best candidates to make a trade.
Before we get into the five teams that should definitely be in on a possible Antonio Brown trade, though, we should look at some honorable mentions. First, there’s the Cleveland Browns. After Josh Gordon’s departure and with a clear willingness to make a big splash, Cleveland would be a natural fit. They miss the “top five” though, because it’s unlikely Pittsburgh would trade him to a division rival.
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey blasted out a tweet indicating a desire for Brown to come and join him in Duval. The fit is clearly there as the Jags receiving corps is lacking. Having said that, the Jaguars are already severely strapped under the salary cap heading into 2019, so making a deal work financially would be a tall task, making it unlikely to happen.
There is also the Arizona Cardinals that would make sense, as Patrick Peterson noted in a tweet telling Brown to come to the desert. Larry Fitzgerald is back for another season, but they need more weapons to help Josh Rosen. However, they fall short of this list and into this category because, given the state of their roster, they should hold on to their valuable capital (especially in the draft) and work towards building a complete roster.
Finally, there is also the Green Bay Packers. With new head coach Matt LaFleur trying to take Aaron Rodgers and Co. back to the Promised Land, it would make sense for the Pack to try and land their star quarterback one of the best weapons in the game. However, the price that it would cost them just seems out of their wheelhouse, which is why they aren’t among the five.
Beyond that, though, these are the five teams that need to get on the horn and call the Steelers about Antonio Brown.
