Nate Davis, Charlotte (6-3, 311 pounds)

Pace has done a good job at finding players not only in the middle rounds but also from small schools. This offseason, without many picks, he’ll need to continue that magic. Nate Davis is a player who can continue that momentum. The Senior Bowl usually has a player or two from small schools who make an impression during practices. Davis is one of them.

He played tackle at Charlotte and some in the Senior Bowl, but with his size, Davis projects as a guard. He has good power in his lower body to move defenders out of the way. Also, he has good hand strength to help him sustain blocks.

In pass protection, he has the tools to be very good but needs development. Hiestand can do wonders with him. He has a powerful punch that can stop rushers dead in their track. However, his base is too narrow and it affects his anchor. On the other hand, he has the mobility to stay square to the rusher. When pulling, he gets out of his stance and gets to his mark quickly.

Davis is a smart player who isn’t satisfied with finishing his block. He’ll also look to hit someone else. He uses angles well to knock defenders off balance.

Davis has the tools to be a good lineman. He just needs to make a few adjustments. What he needs to improve on aren’t too difficult to accomplish and he has the football intelligence to be in the league. Having a coach like Hiestand will help him develop well.
