Will the Jacksonville Jaguars draft their next hopeful franchise quarterback from the 2019 class or instead wait until the 2020 Draft?

General manager Dave Caldwell and the Jacksonville Jaguars have indicated that they will select a quarterback in April’s 2019 NFL Draft. Jacksonville seems to be moving away from Blake Bortles as the face of the franchise. But would Caldwell wait until the 2020 NFL Draft to find his quarterback?

Currently, the Jaguars have four quarterbacks on their roster. They signed Alex McGough in January to possibly replace Tanner Lee on the practice squad. Expect the Jaguars to release Cody Kessler without any dead money counting against the salary cap, per Spotrac.

Bortles is expected to be released as well. Is it possible that Jacksonville keeps him one more year and upgrade his backup instead, though? Mike Reilly of the Canadian Football League received a workout in December and did well.

There has been speculation that the Jaguars would release Bortles and Nick Foles would be signed as a free agent. After signing Foles, Jacksonville would then take a quarterback in the first round this April. Dwayne Haskins and Kyler Murray appear to be the top quarterbacks of the 2019 draft class.

Suppose Jacksonville waits until the 2020 NFL Draft to get their quarterback. Would the next draft class be more enticing than this year’s draft class of quarterbacks? Here’s a look at four quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft class that could be worth waiting for.
