Joe Flacco Trade: 3 Gut reactions for Broncos and Ravens
By Dan Parzych
2. Flacco an upgrade over Keenum
After watching the veteran lead the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship the year before, the Broncos felt confident enough that Keenum was the quarterback they had been waiting for all these years, which played a role in their decision to sign him to a hefty two-year, $36 million deal.
Unfortunately, Keenum took a major step back during the 2017 season by going 6-10 as the starter for Denver while only tossing 18 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions.
Blame the fact that Thomas was no longer around or simply the fact that Sanders eventually got hurt, but the point is Keenum failed to live up to the high expectations for the Broncos, and as a result, his contract looks like a joke.
Since the last thing Denver wants to do is go through another season in which all of the talent they have to work with on both sides of the football goes to complete waste, bringing on a veteran like Flacco who knows what it feels like to win a Super Bowl seems like a smart option.
Investing all that money in Keenum was clearly a terrible decision by the Broncos, but at least the team seems willing to learn from their mistakes with this agreement involving Flacco.
Now, the question becomes whether Flacco has what it takes to finally get this offense to the necessary level to help the team become a serious contender in the AFC once again, which hopefully the veteran can prove early on.
