Green Bay Packers: 3 Reasons not to trade for Antonio Brown
2. Age and asking price
Brown is only 30 years old, but he’ll be 31 before the season starts with multiple years left on his contract. A player’s athleticism starts to wane as they get older, and Father Time remains undefeated in that aspect.
The Packers drafted three wide receivers last year to fit in alongside Adams, and, while they may not be the right pieces yet, there are other options available that Green Bay can add to fill the role that are younger than Brown.
In addition to his elevated age, it’s likely the Steelers will be asking for a good amount in return for Brown. If they were ready to just give him away, they likely would have traded him weeks ago. One major reason that Green Bay has been such a common destination prediction for him is their pair of first-round picks.
Most seem to think that just one of those would be enough to get Brown, but that price is even too high for what Brown brings to the table.
If adding Brown for one first-round pick would win Green Bay a Super Bowl this season or next, they would have the trade done in a heartbeat. However, they know that they need more than that, and drafting well is a major key to creating sustainable success. The team will likely prefer to stay younger with more swings at the plate than to go after Brown.
